POTSDAM — A.A. Kingston Middle School again has been designated as a New York State Middle Schools’ Association School to Watch by the National Forum.

The school has been designated before, in 2009, 2012, and 2015. Schools may reapply every three years.

A.A Kingston Middle School is one of 30 to receive this recognition in New York, and one of 10 that have been designated three or more times.

The National Forum identifies schools based on three criteria: they are academically excellent, they are developmentally responsive, they are socially equitable and provide organizational support.

On June 27, middle school Principal Dan Cook and other staff members traveled to the National Forum to Accelerate Middle Grades Reform School to Watch Conference in Washington, D.C. There they were joined by 900 other staff members from other schools across the United States to receive awards and listen to talks on educating children and fighting fake news.

According to the 2017-18 fact sheet on the middle school, some activities the school provides that helped win its award include student government and student initiatives, organizations that offer grants to promote student activities and academics and grade-to-grade transitions.
